Zaire - My Home
I was born and raised in Zaire, Africa - now known as the Democratic Republic of Congo - formerly the Belgian Congo. It's a place I love and miss. I am ever so thankful to God for the chance to grow up there. The missionary community was a wonderful place for me. Playing soccer, eating great food, having great friends (from Africa, Europe, and North America), gaining a world view - all wonderful benefits of my time there. I dream of taking my family there some day (I'd shed a lot of tears doing that - and have to hold them back right now just thinking about it). An old MK (missionary kid) friend of mine just went back a year or so ago with a group of people going to for ministry. He sent me 4 CDs of pics and videos he took. I am going to put a few pics on here. I wish I knew how to put captions under them. I could tell hours of stories about the places in each picture. So here are a few pictures of home.

Love the log bridge. Do they get cars across it? what would be the possibility of doing a short term missions trip there someday?
The dorm looks so small now. Is it just me, Tim? I haven't been there since 1994, when it was still a dorm and Mobutu was still rockin' the kleptocracy.
Voni, trucks sure did go across it, often with people, goats barrels, chickens, etc. sitting in the cab and the truck bed.

The dorm does seem small. I sure miss it, though. I'd give a lot to get back there.
Hi - when did you live in Zaire? I was there from 1984-1989, some of the best times of my life (aged 8-13). Went to The American School of Kinshasa (TASOK) and had missionary friends there...
I was born there - 1973 - graduated from high school there - 1991. I was back in 1994 briefly. I went to UBAC - the Ubangi Academy - Northwestern Zaire - at Karawa. Currently, I'm a youth pastor.
This is completely and totally random...
I went to UBAC as well...I think we returned in 1989. I was only there for 2nd grade.
2nd pic looks like the reservoir in Karawa we used to go swim at.
Wow, UBAC does look tiny now. I still remember playing with toy cars and planes in the planter outside the boys wing.
Is that 5th picture of the tower in Lac Kwada?
I should find my old UBAC yearbook now.
